Eljer porcelain toilet tank lids.
Eljer lids are often difficult to identify because of the random manufacturing markings put on their products, markings which are often not the part number. Part numbers for tanks are generally 141-xxxx, and tank lids are 151-xxxx, such as 151-0100 or 141-0220 (this is the Eljer Patriot toilet for a 12" rough-in). Eljer products go back to at least the 1940's, and some of the early items used four digit part numbers, such as 7865 or 5540. The 5540 lid was often also or instead marked Pat Num 191697. It can get confusing, but we are committed to getting you the right lid. Use the photos and dimensions to match up your product.
Note that the most common item that has a "lip" that hangs down about 2" is the Eljer Emblem p/n 151-1500. It can be difficult to see in the top or bottom view photos. It was a popular toilet during the 1980's and 1990's.
Eljer was eventually bought or merged with American Standard. There are a few items that were continued to be manufactured under the American Standard name, but most items were discontinued.
In February 1904, cousins Raymond Elmer Crane and Oscar Jerome Backus created Eljer.Following the death of Raymond Crane in 1953, his family sold Eljer to Roger Murray, as part of the Wallace-Murray Corporation. American Standard Brands was formed in February, 2008 from the merger of three companies: American Standard Americas, Crane Plumbing, and Eljer.
